She Sleeps - Three Poems

She sleeps
fitfully
fighting demons
I can't possibly scare away.
I wish
I hope
I try
to help
to cure
It's who I am
Who I want to be
To everyone
but to her
more than anyone

~

She sleeps
beautifully
I watch silently
writing here
drinking there
TV whispering football
I long for her
to hold
to touch
to feel
to lay besides her
But I stay where I am
here to her
there
watching silently
as she sleeps
beautifully

~

She sleeps
quietly
while thunder rumbles
distantly
lightening flashes once
and then no more
I write of hope
and like
and maybe a little
fear
of today
and tomorrow
and yesterday
She sleeps
and I am
inspired.

Now I Do

dimly lit shadows
and the bite of a breeze
blowing me back
seeping into my soul
muddy footprints behind
my sticky shoe steps forward
into the unknown
solid ground seemingly impossible
my heart's silent banging deafens
a hand reaches to steady me
words said yet unheard
once I would not
now I do
